Mitchell, who ran a plantation there. Lolita was established in 1909 and named for Lolita Reese, the granddaughter of a veteran of the Texas Revolution. The following year, a post office opened in Lolita, and the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway built a switch there.
